Creating Inclusive Spaces for Youth and Women in Transitional Justice Processes

From May 22 to May 26, 2023, the Center for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR), in collaboration with the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR), and the Life & Peace Institute (LPI) conducted a Transitional Justice training on the African Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP) for 3 Horn of Africa countries, working with CSOs from those countries in Nairobi, Kenya.

This training was part of a Joint capacity building training series on the African Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP) and was supported by the Swedish Government.

The seminar employed interactive learning and drew participation from several industry leaders. The Executive Director of YORJA Ms. Angeline Abuor was on the panel to speak on the topic "Creating Inclusive Spaces for Youth and Women in Transitional Justice Processes". The discussion centered around the roles of women and young people in the transitional justice process. Panelists discussed ways to promote effective women and youth participation and involvement in conceptualiizng and implementing transitional justice processes at the national and local levels.

Also discussed at the event where the role of women and youth in past and current transitional justice processes and initiatives, including practical examples and best practices; the spaces for youth and women engagement within the AUTJP, including opportunities, challenges, and prospects; Guiding principles and programmatic approaches for engaging and strengthening the role of women and youth in transitional justice processes and initiatives.
