10 September, 2024 | Port Louis, Mauritius
The African Union Commission’s Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security (AUC-DPAPS), with technical support from the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR), officially launched the Reference Group on Transitional Justice in Africa on 10 September 2024 in Port Louis, Mauritius. This initiative, supported by the European Union under the Initiative for Transitional Justice in Africa consortium, seeks to advance transitional justice efforts across the continent.
YORJA is proud to announce that two of its team members, Ms. Heba Assem and Mr. Enya Echeng, have been appointed to serve on the African Union Reference Group on Transitional Justice in Africa, representing North Africa and West Africa, respectively. In addition, Mr. Enya Echeng has been appointed as the Secretary of the Reference Group.
The Reference Group, comprising 15 experts from Africa’s five regions (Southern, East, West, Central, and North Africa), is tasked with program definition, strategic advisory, and quality control over transitional justice interventions. The group will also provide technical support and strategic advice to African Union Member States, the AUC, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), ensuring the successful implementation of the African Union Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP).
We extend our best wishes to the Reference Group as they embark on this important mission and look forward to their continued contributions toward peacebuilding and justice in Africa.
